Cosmetic Tattooing Pre & Post care

PRE CARE INSTRUCTIONS:

• It is recommended to eat something before your appointment to make sure your blood sugar levels stay stable during the procedure

• Please do not wear any makeup (at least on and around your eyebrow area)
• Avoid alcohol for 24 hrs before your appointment. Alcohol can thin the blood, which can cause the skin to be hypersensitive and bleed easily.
• Avoid blood thinning medications for 72 hrs before your appointment. This includes ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil tablets. Please consult your doctor if this is an issue.
• Make sure your face is not sunburnt
• Do not get brows waxed or tinted for 2 weeks prior to your appointment
• If considering Botox, it is best to have your brow tattooing done first. If having Botox before your treatment, please do this at least 2 weeks before your appointment
• If you have been taking acne medications such as Accutane or Retin-A within the last year you have an altered skin condition that will not heal well after the procedure. It’s very important that you wait a year before tattooing the skin. Retinol and Vitamin A are very similar and should be discontinued to use a month prior to the procedure.

Common Questions:

What is the difference between eye brow shading and eye brow hair strokes?

-Eyebrow shading is more noticeable but not as natural as eyebrow hair stroke,  it is a block colour that is filled in along the whole brow. This technique has been around the longest and lasts for a longer period of time due to the amount of pigment being implanted in the skin, a tattoo gun is used to do the treatment.
Another form of Shading that can be done is a powder brow that is more natural than the shading where a light air misted powder technique is applied giving a soft shaded look. 

-Eyebrow Hair stroke is a more natural method where individual hair strokes are tattooed onto the brows using a technique called microblading to create the effect of more hairs and fuller brows. As the hair stroke method is more fine and natural it will fade out faster and can last for up to 2-5 years but you will need a touch up at roughly 12 - 18months to keep them looking fresh and avoid having to pay to have them completely re done. 
The microblading may not be suitable for all skin types, however don't fear as we can achieve the same results using a fine machine needle for the hair strokes.

Difference between lip line and lip blend?
-The lip line is just the outer line of the lip that is defined. Some peoples lip line will fade out with age or they may have scaring from such things as cold saws that have deformed the lip line, tattooing it will redefine it and even be able to give the effect of fuller lips.
-Lip blend is where the lip line is done and the colour is blended half way into the lip to look more natural and add a touch more colour to their new beautiful pout. 

Difference between eyeliner and eyeliner enhancement?
-Eyeliner is a thicker line that could have a slight flick at the end giving the appearance of wearing makeup. Every eye liner done is customised to suite the clients needs and wishes.
-Eyeliner enhancement is just that an enhancement of the lash line that is fine and subtle, great for clients with fair lashes that want to define the lash line.

Will I need more than one treatment?
Yes you are required to have a follow up treatment to rectify any imperfections and to intensify the colour, the initial price will also include the touch up treatment. This second appointment is very important and must be done between 4-8weeks after first treatment. Failure to make your follow up appointment within this time will result in your next appointment being charged at full price.

How long does cosmetic tattoo last?
The pigment is permanently implanted, but fading occurs over time. It can last from 2 to 20
years. You will require touch ups over the years to maintain it. Lighter colors will fade faster than the darker colors. The good news is that you are never stuck with a colour. It can be modified or changed.

Will the tattooing Hurt?
​With any tattooing you will have some discomfort.
A topical numbing cream will be required to be pre purchased at least 1 week prior from a compounding company who will send a pre and stay numb for $35 including shipping,
and will be applied to help with the discomfort however it will not be totally painless and some areas will be felt more than others.
The beginning of the tattooing will be felt slightly more as the numbing cream is only numbing the surface and the pigment has to be implanted deeper into the skin to last. A second numbing cream is then applied once the skin is broken and can penetrate deeper and work more effectively.

What is involved in the healing and aftercare?
Swelling may last from 2 to 72 hours or longer, this is very individual. Aftercare will be explained before your procedure and an aftercare sheet is provided for you to take home.
Cosmetic Tattoo will appear extremely intense and thick immediately after the procedure, this will fade in 5 to 10 days. Colour will continue to soften over the next couple of months.
You may find the colour will be dark to start with then fade then may come back a more after a few weeks.

While the area is healing, apply Bepanthen
aftercare cream for 7-10 days as many times as you feel necessary to keep the area nourished, we do not want the area to dry out and scab this can draw the pigment out and we are trying to prevent that so you can maintain as much colour as possible.

POST CARE-
 Don’t
- Touch the area with your hands.
- Traumatize or rub the area.
- Peel off any scabs that may form.
- Get soap, shampoo, conditioner on the treated area.
- Expose the treated area to chlorinated water (tap and swimming). Chlorinated water can
  turn iron oxides green as chlorine is bleach.
- Expose the treated area to salt water (swimming).
- Expose the treated area to the sun.
- Wear make up on the treated area.
- Wear mascara, eye shadow, lipstick or pencil on the treated area.
- Pluck, wax or tint eyebrows if they have been treated.
- Perm or apply false eyelashes if they have been treated.
- Do any vigorous exercises for the first 24 hours.
- Use a sun bed, spa or sauna.
- Continuously lick lips.
- Eat acidic, spicy or greasy food after lip treatment.
- Use toothpaste with whitener after lip treatment.
- Expose the treated area to sun.
- Never use skin care products with AHA (alpha hydroxyl acid) on any treated area.
- Do not contaminate the aftercare cream by using the same cotton bud or your fingers.


IMPORTANT NOTES
​
- If the area is swollen, apply aftercare cream, you can apply a damp gauze and ice pack.
  Leave on for 10 minutes. Lift the ice pack off the area if it gets too cold.
- Keep the treated area moist with aftercare cream for approximately 10 days.
- Apply petroleum jelly on eyebrows or lips, before having a shower to prevent soap,
 shampoo, conditioner and chlorinated water penetrating the treated area.
- Only use the aftercare cream recommended by the technician, as some creams can
 remove or fade the pigment colour.
